Powerful sounding Cutaway ! Dream guitar !
Playing Asturias
demands an instrument that responds fast to the slightest change in the
angle of attack of the fingers. The bass is amazingly strong and projects
wonderfully. The trebles are clear and penetrating. She's one of the best
sounding Cutaway I ever played. Her sound is off the charts !! Fabulous
! Listen to the clip and you'll understand what I mean.
Southern Australia,
and more precisely the island of Tasmania, is definitely the "Holy
Land" of luthery hard tonewoods. I had the luck of building concert instruments
using, Tasmanian Tiger Myrtle, Tasmanian Blackwood and now Tasmanian White
Oak. The 3 woods rank among the rarest woods to come by and This White
Oak was a first for me. It possesses a fabulous tap tone that inspires
trust and confidence to the builder that knows for certainty that the resulting
guitar will be one in a million instruments. The grain on the wood is sober
and very beautiful, Light brown with paler sapwood, strong, tough, heavy,
fine-grained, durable and beautiful. The set I used for this project was
from a tree 550 years old... Working the woods is tough and it really puts
the luthery tools to the test.
I mounted
a gorgeous Alpine Spruce top from Val D'Aosta (Northern Italy). This
pine is the highest growing tree. It feeds on very scarce on oxygen air
at 1800 mts. This species is the one used by the Cremonan violin maker
Stradivarius for his Epic violins...
The instrument
pushes the sound with amazing power and clarity. Slight changes in the
angle of attack of the right hand fingers will open the sound color palette
to an amazing array for the player to choose from. I used Tahitian mother
of pearl to complete the Rosette and add special touches to the headstock
and bridge. She's easy to play thanks to the stylized neck and low action.
Add to this that she's a Cutaway, and you will understand that she is really
as good as a guitar can get. |

Italian Alpine Spruce is
the highest growing tree on the planet. It grows at or above 1,800 meters
where the oxygen is rarefied. This makes the grain much tighter resulting
in a strong reverberating tone wood. This is the species Stradivarius used
for his legendary violins.
