Bach, "Saraband Suite #6", BWV 1012
Transcription and Fingering: Renato Bellucci
Saint Francis was blessed with many Celestial visions during his life. In one of them, the Saint from Assisi describes an Angel that appeared to him playing a melody on the violin. Saint Francis said that he would have died such was the beauty of the melody he heard if God did not keep him alive at the moment. Bach Saraband BWV 1012 from Cello Suite #6, is without a doubt an anticipation of what music in Heaven must sound like. It is a Prayer. Bach wrote it in coincidence with the death of his wife and being the man of Faith that he was, the Saraband cannot but reflect his great spiritual depth. Every phrase reaches the most deep corners of our hearts and souls and one cannot but become aware of his eternal dimension. It is pieces like the Saraband BWV 1012 that testify that we humans are blessed creatures made in the image of our Almighty Father.
The color coding I implement on the score comes in very handy with masterworks like the Saraband BWV 1012 because a single string squeak can literally kill the piece. Lift the fingers off the fingerboard with more or less care depending on the color code of the note being marked.
